My name is Bryce Leonard, and I’m the co-founder of EstateSync. With over 14 years of experience in building impactful tech solutions, I want to take a moment to share the story behind why I built EstateSync and the value we aim to provide to our users.
On September 28th, 2023, my family and I faced the unexpected loss of my father due to complications from a routine bypass surgery. He was only 63. Like many sons, my father meant the world to me. He was adventurous, genuine, and had a gift for connecting with people. His passions for landscape photography and cooking left us with thousands of unpublished photos, handwritten recipes, and a void in our hearts.
However, beyond the emotional toll of his passing, we were confronted with an overwhelming challenge: unraveling the details of his estate. Despite my father’s meticulous nature, we found ourselves lost—spending countless hours tracking down basic information like bank accounts, digital passwords, subscriptions, and important documents.
Grief quickly became secondary as we struggled to piece together what we assumed would be straightforward aspects of his life. To complicate matters, we also had no clear understanding of how he wanted his funeral or remains to be handled. We had snippets of his wishes, but nothing concrete, which left us questioning whether we were truly honoring his memory in the way he would have wanted.
In the process of researching and building EstateSync, I learned that this experience is common for many families, regardless of age or economic status. Estate organization is often seen as something only for the wealthy, but the reality is, the need for it is universal. Everyone deserves the peace of mind that comes from having their affairs organized, not just those who create Wills or Trusts. EstateSync was built to address this gap.
